HomeFront was one of the first recipients of the Paint4Good initiative. As soon as the Paint4Good team read their application, the vote was unanimous. As Jon, Chief of Colour at The Urban Painter, aptly described it “… our team is sadly aware of the increase in domestic violence during these uncertain times, and we all felt a strong desire to help this community in our small way, and hopefully adding a bit of brightness to a space in need of some.”
HomeFront is a Calgary-based charity that works to support families impacted by domestic violence. They are focused on creating safe communities by eliminating domestic violence through direct client services, justice coordination and facilitated community action. HomeFront works with clients to develop safety plans and connects them with needed resources in the community such as shelter, housing, food supports and counselling services. They offer all their services free of charge and rely on donors and supporters to provide the resources required to complete their work for the community.
The HomeFront office space is from the 1970’s and was described to the Paint4Good team as very old and dated! They’ve been hoping to repaint for over 8 years but never found the time or money… so they were desperate to freshen up their space. With a mixture of purple, green and grey walls, it wasn’t a very cohesive look and felt dark and uninviting – not the atmosphere they wanted for their staff or clients. They were looking for a more modern, warm and happy space to boost staff morale as they move forward into this challenging time of increased domestic violence.
“Our whole staff cheered when we informed them that we would be getting our office painted, and they are all excited to come back to a fresh new space! Our staff do incredibly challenging work every day supporting victims of domestic violence, and, with COVID-19 and economic stressors in our world, the rates of domestic violence are increasing and our staff caseloads are also increasing”.
– The HomeFront Team
The HomeFront team met with Amanda, a colour consultant from The Urban Painter, to find a brighter, more beautiful colour palette for their office space. The main walls were refreshed with Benjamin Moore’s ‘Classic Grey’ (#OC-23), and the purple doors were repainted with Benjamin Moore’s ‘Sea Haze’ (#2137-40), creating a brighter, more welcoming environment. And, to honour HomeFront’s desire to keep a bit of purple, as it is the colour of domestic violence, Benjamin Moore’s ‘Amorous’ (AF-600), a lovely shade of lilac, was selected for a feature wall.
“We know that this new brightened and fresh space will be a wonderful place for staff when they return to the office to continue to support their clients during this challenging time. It will also be a warmer and more inviting space to welcome volunteers and clients. Thank you, The Urban Painter, we are so grateful!!”

The goal of the Paint4Good initiative is to add colour and spread some joy within Calgary’s charitable community. The Urban Painter team is full of avid paint-lovers and this initiative has given us a wonderful opportunity to share this love, for which we are grateful. We also could not have transformed this amazing space without the help of our partners, who have graciously given their time and supplies to support Paint4Good. Our gratitude to Amanda Bryant for giving her time and expertise to help HomeFront find their perfect colours! And, of course, our deepest thanks to Benjamin Moore for donating all the paint and supplies to help our crews transform this space.
Finally, our thanks to HomeFront. Thank you for putting your trust in us to brighten your space and thank you for your unwavering support for those impacted by domestic violence. Your work is important at all times but is even more critical during these especially challenging times.
We were honoured to work with the HomeFront team and hope that their new space is brighter and more inviting for staff, volunteers and clients.
