Adding Some Bright Colours to WINS!

The Women in Need Society (WINS) is a Calgary-based charity helping women in need and their families since 1992. WINS operate five Family Resource Centres, a Free Goods Referral Program, Employment Services, Recycling Program, and the WINS five Thrift Stores social enterprise. Three of the Family Resource Centres operate within the deep subsidy housing complexes of Calgary to provide a variety of programs to support women and their families. In 2019, the Centres provided more than 16,000 services to 6,800 women.

These centres provide support and resources for the low-income tenants as well as the surrounding neighbourhood. Many families rely on the centres to find their way out of poverty and crisis. Our centres are places where women feel safe. The comfort and beauty of these centres is important, it helps to restore the clients’ emotional well-being and health.”

The Project – The Temple Family Resource Centre

WINS was looking to refresh and revive their Family Resource Centre located in Temple, Calgary. This resource centre sees a lot of traffic and many of WINS’ clients get a lot of use out of the space. However, the interior was painted an outdated mint green that the entire team was ready to get rid of! The WINS team wanted to bring more light and brightness into the space and change the look to something more fun and inviting.

The team at WINS worked with Yvonne, a professional colour consultant from Staging Calgary to choose their colours. Benjamin Moore’s Easter Lily (#2150-70) was used in semi-gloss on the main floor walls and upstairs walls and hallway, and in egg shell to brighten up the doors and trim. A striped feature wall was created using Benjamin Moore’s Mellow Yellow (#2020-50) to add some fun to the kids room. And Benjamin Moore’s American Cheese (#2019-40) added a lovely splash of colour to the inside door and kids rooms.

Our team was moved by the impact this organization has in our community, especially during the uncertain times we are facing with COVID-19. Also, the space was in much need of some love and that inspired our team to make a difference through colour.

Our Thanks

The families that go to the WINS family resource centre need proper support and a welcoming environment, and we are so grateful that we were able to help create a more colourful and inviting space.

Thank you so much to those who donated their time and efforts to this Paint4Good project. Yvonne Laanstra from Staging Calgary helped us select wonderful colours for this site. Yvonne donated her time and skills to meet with the WINS team and make sure the colours they were choosing would freshen up the space and make it feel livelier and brighter! Jaimie Stewart from Beautiful World Media helped us with all the photography and videography for this project.

We would also like to thank those who donated supplies to our Paint4Good projects and are a huge reason as to why this is all possible. Thank you to Benjamin Moore, for supplying us with the highest-quality paint, and to 3M Canada for donating tape and other supplies to ensure our projects were prepped in the best way possible!

Lastly, we would like to say thank you to the WINS team. We are so glad that you chose to apply to Paint4Good, and so grateful that we had the opportunity to work with the WINS team. Thank you for everything you do for the community, you help make Calgary a happier, more positive place!
