Rejuvenating Habitat For Humanity Southern Alberta!

Habitat for Humanity Southern Alberta is a non-profit organization that brings the community together to help families build strength, stability and independence through affordable home ownership. The organization’s guiding principle is “families first”, and they bring community, funders, sponsors, volunteers and government together to build affordable homes for working families with children under 18. Since 1990, Habitat for Humanity has partnered with over 300 families across southern Alberta, affecting the lives of nearly 900 children.

Habitat for Humanity runs lean, directing as many funds as possible towards supporting families and their children. This ‘families-first’ principle means that they rarely allocate hard earned funds towards refreshing or painting their own offices. As a result, the Southern Alberta office had not been painted in over 10 years, except for two walls. Not only was it showing significant wear and tear, but the original colour was very drab and definitely did not inspire! It was beyond time for a major upgrade and the Paint4Good team was more than happy to help!

“We’d thought only the kitchen and boardroom would be painted. We’d picked these areas as they were the two common areas used by everyone, so everyone could get to enjoy the freshly painted areas. Instead, The Urban Painter also painted all the outside walls — along the hallways from the kitchen, along all the offices to the boardroom and entrance area!

The Project – Kitchen & Boardroom

The kitchen and boardroom are the two most highly trafficked areas in the Habitat for Humanity Southern Alberta office, used by staff and the public. Both spaces were definitely showing signs of wear and tear and were in dire need of a facelift!

Yvonne Laanstra from Staging Calgary donated her time and design expertise to help the team from Habitat for Humanity Southern Alberta decide on their perfect colours. Benjamin Moore’s Mountain Peak White (#2184-70) was chosen to brighten up the kitchen and interior boardroom walls, and Blue Note (#2129-30) added a beautiful pop of blue to the interior boardroom doors!

“It was such a privilege for our team to be able to give back to Habitat for Humanity Southern Alberta. The organization is so pivotal in our community and, after 10 years they had not been able to update their own space. It was so much fun to do this for them.”

“It was stunning to see how much brighter, cleaner and bigger our office space felt and looked after the paint job. Who knew?!? It’s like someone let the sunshine in!”

The Project – Walls & Hallways

The Paint4Good crew surprised the team at Habitat for Humanity Southern Alberta by not only brightening up their kitchen and boardroom, but also reviving their main outside walls along the hallways from the kitchen, along all the offices to the boardroom and entrance area. The walls were really showing showing their age and the colour was dreary, definitely not representative of the personality of their team!

Yvonne again worked with the Habitat for Humanity team to select Benjamin Moore’s Mountain Peak White (#2184-70), which visibly opened up the space, making it look bigger and brighter!

“THANK YOU The Urban Painter, for your generosity and selflessness in brightening-up our space and lifting our spirits during this very challenging COVID year that has impacted us all.  We always put the families and children we serve first, so this paint job is a very special treat for staff. Thank you.“
